1973:

  • Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling overturns state laws against abortion.

  • The Paris Peace Accords are signed, ending direct U.S. involvement in the Vietnam War. 

  • Yom Kippur War breaks out, leading to an oil embargo by OPEC. 

  • The "Saturday Night Massacre" occurs as Nixon attempts to fire the special prosecutor in the Watergate case. 

  • Senate Watergate hearings begin and Nixon’s secret tapes are revealed

1974:

  • Daylight Savings Time is enacted.

  • Vice President Spiro Agnew resigns.

  • President Nixon resigns, becoming the first and only U.S. president to resign. 

  • Gerald Ford becomes the new President, pardons Richard Nixon.

  • Hank Aaron breaks Babe Ruth's home run record. 

  • Sweet Home Alabama is released by Lynyrd Skynyrd.

1975:

  • Bill Gates founds Microsoft.

  • The Vietnam War ends with the fall of Saigon

  • Wheel of Fortune premieres on NBC.
